Physical Planning, Development & Operations (PPDO) is comprised of the newly combined resources of three, well-established departments on campus; Physical Planning & Construction, Physical Plant and the Real Estate Office.

  • Physical Planning & Construction has long supported the UCSC academic vision by managing and overseeing all physical planning, design and construction from a single sidewalk to the expansive, new Coastal Biology Building.
  • Physical Plant keeps it all running by managing and maintaining our buildings and infrastructure, custodial services, grounds and road services, refuse and recycling.
  • The Real Estate Office is a dependable source of asset and real estate management counsel to the campus community for our leases, licenses, acquisitions and off-campus facilities.

Leading the newly formed Physical Planning, Development & Operations is Associate Vice Chancellor, Traci Ferdolage. Ferdolage comes from Humboldt State University where she served as associate vice president of facilities management. While there, her responsibilities included planning, design, and construction; operations and maintenance; energy and sustainability; parking and commuter services; and real estate functions.

Ferdolage’s vision for PPDO is “to focus on campus as a customer. To bring our talented and skilled people together to share resources with renewed dedication to the needs of our campus customer.”

PPDO is ultimately a service department, providing the services each one of its units has long delivered to campus but with a new energy and a shared vision.
